What Are Dental Implants?![]() A dental implant is a titanium metal threaded post. Once inserted, this post will bond with the bone, creating a firm base to serve as a middleman between the jawbone and tooth. The bonding comes not from the post, but from your bone. Our bone is constantly under construction, rebuilding and replenishing when it notes a need by being used or exercised. We will surgically insert the post into the bone; the bone will then grow around the threaded metal fusing the two firmly together. Depending on the work being done we may need to perform a bone graft before surgery. Additionally, some patients will have their device placed immediately for use, and some patients will need to wait several months before they can have their device placed. Each procedure is customized to fit the patient, implants come in a variety of widths and lengths, and each procedure will require varying numbers of implants to be placed. The best way to determine your procedure is following an dental examination. What can be done with dental implants?A dental implant is a device used to rebuild the base following the loss of a tooth. Once secured, we can do some things with a dental implant to improve your oral health. We can secure a single dental crown to an implant; we can use an implant as an anchor for one side of a dental bridge or partial denture, we can even use an implant to help secure a full denture. |
