If you need to have a crown replaced, it can take time if you choose the traditional method. However, today's innovations in dentistry make it possible for you to replace a crown easily and affordably. Read more about the benefit of a one-day crown replacement.
What Happens When a One-Day Crown Is Made and What Are the Main Benefits?
When you get a same-day crown for your tooth, you make one appointment with us. You do not make two appointments, as you do with a traditional crown. The first thing we will do is create a 3D image of your tooth. This is done by using computer-aided design (CAD) technology and an in-office intraoral camera. After we obtain a model of the tooth, we use a CEREC machine to make the crown. Next, we will prepare the tooth so we can place your new crown. Unlike a traditional crown, the new tooth will be made of ceramic, which will make it less durable than porcelain or metal. However, if you need to replace a crown fast, this method is still a great alternative. The whole process takes about an hour. Therefore, it is faster and more convenient.
How Is Getting a Traditional Crown Different than Getting a One-Day Crown?
The process for getting a traditional crown entails setting two appointments. First, we will take an x-ray image of the damaged tooth and perform any other dental work, such as a root canal. We will then make an impression of the tooth, so we can send it to a lab, which will craft the new crown. Next, we will install a temporary crown to protect your tooth until you see us again in about 2 weeks. On your second visit, we will remove the temporary crown, numb your mouth so you will not experience any discomfort, and place your permanent crown. The cost of a ceramic crown versus a crown made of porcelain or metal runs about the same. However, you save more money when you make one appointment instead of two.
Do you need to have a crown replaced quickly? If so, we have the means to replace your crown in a day, thanks to today's dental technology. Give us a call today to schedule an appointment.
