Signs You May Notice But Not Feel for Oral Cancer

Posted on 11/20/2019 by Office
Signs You May Notice But Not Feel for Oral CancerOral cancer has many causes. Some of the main risk factors for oral cancer are tobacco use, alcoholism, excessive sun exposure on the lips, HPV, and a weakened immune system related to other illnesses.

Oral cancer is caused when cells inside the mouth or on the lips develop mutated DNA and continue to grow and multiply rather than going through the natural cell cycle. These cells can eventually form a tumor if left untreated.

Oral cancer is a serious matter, and as such it is important to look out for signs whenever possible. Most may think that signs of oral cancer exhibit as pain, but there are other symptoms which can be easily spotted before the cancer progresses enough to become painful. By keeping a vigilant eye, you may be able to spot oral cancer before it develops into a very serious condition.

Signs to Look Out For

Visual signs are the greatest signal that you may have oral cancer, which is why it is important to look for them before they progress. If you are at risk for lip cancer, you may be able to notice that your lips are not able to heal properly. After getting lip cancer, your lips cannot heal properly and any small nicks or sores may take a very long time to heal.

Another sign that you may have oral cancer is loose teeth. If oral cancer has affected you, your teeth may become loose or even fall out. This symptom can be accompanied by red or whitish patches in the mouth or even unusual and new lumps inside the mouth.

It is important to note that if you are exhibiting any of these signs in or around your mouth, you must visit us immediately. While these symptoms are not always related to oral cancer, they can be related to other serious oral problems, so it is best not to wait to get them checked by us. Give us a call and we will be happy to schedule an appointment for you.
