How Coconut Water Can Help with Your Oral Health

Posted on 6/15/2019 by Office
How Coconut Water Can Help with Your Oral HealthWe know there are a lot of you out there who are oral health gods and goddesses. You are champions of your mouth. You brush your teeth twice a day. You floss. You make sure to keep up with dental checkups. You even eat and drink well for your overall health, including all that great water intake we all need.

Are there other things you can do to improve your oral health? You may be able to improve it through drinking coconut water. Coconut has been found to not only help your oral health, but your overall physical health as well.

The Benefits of Coconut Water

There are many benefits to drinking coconut water. First, if you are an athlete, coconut water can be a better, sugar-free substitute for electrolyte replacement. Research has found that coconut water is better for you than sports drinks, which have a lot of sugar. If you drink a lot of sports drinks, you are adding sugar into your diet- and into your mouth as well. Bacteria already present in your mouth can feed off the sugar, and cause cavities. We know you don't want that.

Another benefit of coconut water is that it actually helps your mouth produce more saliva, which can wash away bacteria and food particles. For people who have naturally dry mouths, coconut water can help them get more of the bacteria and food out of their mouth than they normally would. The more hydrated your mouth is, the better you are able to keep those pesky mouth bacteria at bay.

If you have questions about the benefits of coconut water, or you are looking for ways to improve your overall dental health, give us a call. We love talking about the best ways you can work to make your mouth as healthy as possible.
