Sugary Snacks Can Lead To Big Problems
It's nothing new to state that sugars is bad for your teeth; but have you ever stopped to consider why this is so? Remember, your mouth is filled with bacteria that live and thrive there. These organisms digest food particles in your mouth in order to get their energy, and they really love sugar!
When the bacteria in your mouth process sugar, they release a form of acid as a byproduct. This acid can attack the enamel on your teeth, weakening them and making them more susceptible to cavities and damage. This process is even worse in the case of people who snack and then let the food particles just sit in their mouths.
So, if you must snack on something that is high in sugar, make sure that you rinse your mouth out after you have finished. This will reduce the amount of sugar sitting in your mouth, and will cut down on the amount of acid produced by the bacteria that live there.
Crunchy Snacks Can Damage Weakened Teeth
If your teeth are weak, whether because they are naturally weaker than normal or because of damage, eating crunchy snacks can cause them to chip, crack, or even break. In addition, some types of dental work will not stand up over the long run to the rigors of crunchy snacks, so use some caution when enjoying them.
